Managing Depression – Recorded (On Demand) Training

Support strategies for practice team members in managing patients with depression

This learning activity will review the diagnostic and classification criteria, screening tools, treatment options and support strategies for patients with depression.

At the conclusion of this training course the participant will be able to:

  1. Be able to more clearly differentiate between reactive depression and major depression.
  2. Demonstrate familiarity with comorbidities and other conditions that could look like major depression.
  3. Be familiar with the basic groups of antidepressants and be more able to explain to patients.

Successful completion includes:

  • Access the MI-CCSI Learning Management System.
  • Create a New User Profile (if a new learner to the system).
  • Participate in each desired learning activity.
  • Complete the course evaluation after each to obtain continuing education credits.

Audience

The course is intended for nurses, social workers, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, community health workers and other care team members who are seeking to expand their knowledge and skills.

Faculty

Mark D. Williams, M.D.

Mark D. Williams, M.D. is a psychiatrist at Mayo in Rochester, Minnesota. He received his MD at the University of Minnesota, residency training in Psychiatry at Mayo with additional boards in CL Psychiatry. A Professor of Psychiatry at Mayo, with over 60 articles and book chapters mostly on topics related to integrated behavioral health (IBH). He has a second academic appointment in Family Medicine.

He led translation of evidence-based models of care coordination into primary care practices at Mayo and as part of state and national initiatives. He is lead for QI in the department of Psychiatry and Psychology and is based within a busy Integrated Behavioral Health practice.
