Letter from the Executive Director
Mi-CCSI’s mission is “partnering to better care” and providing continuing education opportunities at no cost is one way we can contribute at this time.
From October 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021 to assist those providing care, Mi-CCSI is extending and expanding its FREE on-line enduring disease management learning options. All enduring learning activities have nursing and social work continuing education available and are at NO COST to the participant.
Asthma & COPD Learning Series
The Michigan Center for Clinical Systems Improvement (Mi-CCSI) is offering seven session on demand learning series designed to familiarize the care manager and other care team members with the diagnosis, pharmacology and management of patients with Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Each session is a different topic and is available for on demand viewing and enduring continuing education credits.
Session 1: Asthma Diagnosis & Management
This session provides a broad overview of asthma prevalence, diagnosis, goals of therapy and tools to identify and recognize how to assess asthma control.
Session 2: Asthma Pharmacology
This session dives into pharmaceutical management of asthma including medication categories, side effects and stepped management of medications.
Session 3: Asthma Triggers
This session explores indoor, outdoor, GERD, exercise and other triggers as well as discussing management of triggers.
Session 4: Asthma Action Plans, Health Literacy & Case Studies
This session outlines the development and implementation of action plans using evidence based guidelines for optimal asthma management, addresses healthcare literacy, and provides examples of case studies.
Session 5: COPD Overview
This session addresses diagnosis and management of COPD.
Session 6: COPD Pharmacotherapy
This session provides an overview COPD pharmaceutical management including side effects and review tobacco cessation strategies.

This two part online learning activity will review the pathology, medication management, and managing patients with Diabetes.
Part One: Pathology and Medication Management
This session is designed to familiarize the care manager and other care team members with the pathology and pharmacological management of diabetes.
Part Two: Practical application of the pathology and medication in developing a care plan and supporting the patient with self-management actions
This session is designed to familiarize the care manager and other care team members with support strategies for patient self-management and management strategies for the care management team while working with patients with diabetes.
Each session is a different topic and is available for on demand viewing and enduring continuing education credits.

Collaborative Care Model Learning Series
This six part online learning activity was originally created as adjunct learning to the BCBSM pilot Collaborative Care Model training but the topics are appropriate for practice team implementing behavioral-medical integration care models, care managers and other team members, working with patients experiencing depression and/or anxiety, to enhance and refine their knowledge and skills in Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation and Problem Solving Treatment.
