Asthma & COPD Webinar Series


The Michigan Center for Clinical Systems Improvement (Mi-CCSI) is hosting a six session webinar series designed to familiarize the care manager and other care team members with the diagnosis, pharmacology and management of patients with Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.  Each session is a different topic and will be recorded and will be available for on-demand viewing and enduring continuing education credits.

Session 1: Asthma Diagnosis & Management

This session provides a broad overview of asthma prevalence, diagnosis, goals of therapy and tools to identify and recognize how to assess asthma control.

This session dives into pharmaceutical management of asthma including medication categories, side effects and stepped management of meds.

This session explores indoor, outdoor, GERD, exercise and other triggers as well as discussing management of triggers.

Session 4: Asthma Action Plans, Health Literacy & Case Studies

This session outlines the development and implementation of action plans using evidence based guidelines for optimal asthma management, addresses healthcare literacy, and provides examples of case studies.

Michigan Board of Nursing: 

 Asthma & COPD: Diagnosis and Management is approved for 6.0 contact hours by the Michigan Nurses Association, an approver of continuing nursing education by the Michigan Board of Nursing.  An individual may be awarded 6 contact hours for successfully completing all webinars.

Social Work:

This course is approved for 1.0 contact hour for each attended presentation by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative.  Course approval #: 071116-00

Our Presenter

Karen Meyerson, MSN, APRN, NP-C, AE-C

Karen graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is also a board-certified Nurse Practitioner in private practice, specializing in asthma and allergies. In addition, Karen has served on the Michigan Department of Community Health-sponsored Michigan Asthma Advisory Committee, the Michigan Pediatric Asthma Mortality Review Panel, and the Michigan Consortium of Asthma Coalitions Steering Team. Nationally, Karen was elected to the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB), where she is an Emeritus Member, and has presented at Congressional Briefings on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on asthma-related issues.
